A Windows application. Three behaviors you turn on when you need them, a beam that tells you what state it is in, and a license that does not expire.

It installs from Microsoft Store and updates itself. It has no server of its own, it does not ask you for an account and it keeps nothing on our systems: what you configure lives in your Windows.

And one thing you will notice: there are no photos of the app here. Its windows are marked as not capturable, on purpose, so that nobody records your screen with the HUD on it. What you see above is a recreation drawn field by field from the real XAML.

It translates the text you are already looking at, without copying it and without changing window. When the control gives up its text it reads it directly; when it does not, it recognizes the area around the pointer with Windows' own OCR, on your machine.

And it never gets in the way: it steps aside on its own to the edge when you stop using it, it comes back under the cursor when you look for it, and it places itself according to where the element is and the free space that is left.
  • It never covers. It picks side and height based on the real gap on the screen.
  • It is remembered. Laser, voice, temperament and wait survive between sessions.
  • It switches off. You disable the laser in settings and the beam stops existing; the app keeps reading without it.
  • It can be touched. Pin it, switch to panoramic view and close it from the panel header.

The reading is local.
The AI is your decision.

ToolTip AI has no server of its own, it does not ask you for an account and it uploads nothing on its own. It identifies the element and reads its metadata inside Windows, with the capabilities the system already brings. Only if you put in a provider key does anything travel — and it travels where you choose.

  • Without a key it keeps working locally: it loses the expert advice, not the reading.
  • The key is stored encrypted with DPAPI, tied to your Windows user.
  • The HUD does not come out in screenshots or in recordings, on purpose.
  • Compatible with Gemini, OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, OpenRouter and Claude.
And about the error notices, the small print of the panel itself: «Only the error type and the app version. Never text, window titles, paths or keys. Off by default.»

The six questions before paying.

Does it work offline and without an API key?
Yes. Identifying the control and reading its metadata happen inside Windows with UI Automation, and the text is recognized with Windows.Media.Ocr on your own machine. Without a key you lose the expert advice written by AI, not the reading.
Do I have to create an account?
No. The app has no server of its own and no sign-up. The license ties to the Microsoft account you use to install from the Store, and it is not a subscription: it is a one-time payment for life.
What does my screen upload to the internet?
Nothing on its own. If you ask for an explanation with AI, the image of the area you snipped travels to the provider you configured, with your key encrypted on the machine with DPAPI. The password fields that UI Automation detects are neither read nor sent.
Does it work on Windows 10?
Yes, from build 19041, and also on Windows 11. There is only an x64 build: there is no ARM64 build.
Two listings that look alike, which one do I install?
ToolTip AI is the complete application: the three layers live on the same element, with a single panel and a single configuration. Translate and Aura are two of those layers living in their own listing. If you want the set, the listing is ToolTip AI.
What happens when the free trial ends?
The two separate listings carry a 7-day free trial, with no card up front. The complete app has no trial: you buy it once and it stays. When a trial ends, that listing stops answering until you buy it, and there is no automatic charge — there is no subscription to renew, so nobody charges you by surprise.
