ToolTip AI

Frequently asked questions about ToolTip AI.

The six questions that stop a desktop software purchase — what goes to the internet, whether there is a hidden subscription and which listing to install — answered plainly, plus which product fits you, the system requirements and how privacy works.

The six questions before paying.

These are the questions people ask most often before installing ToolTip AI on Windows. The visible answers below are the same ones marked up for search engines, word for word.

Does it work offline and without an API key?
Yes. Identifying the control and reading its metadata happen inside Windows with UI Automation, and the text is recognized with Windows.Media.Ocr on your own machine. Without a key you lose the expert advice written by AI, not the reading.
Do I have to create an account?
No. The app has no server of its own and no sign-up. The license ties to the Microsoft account you use to install from the Store, and it is not a subscription: it is a one-time payment for life.
What does my screen upload to the internet?
Nothing on its own. If you ask for an explanation with AI, the image of the area you snipped travels to the provider you configured, with your key encrypted on the machine with DPAPI. The password fields that UI Automation detects are neither read nor sent.
Does it work on Windows 10?
Yes, from build 19041, and also on Windows 11. There is only an x64 build: there is no ARM64 build.
Two listings that look alike, which one do I install?
ToolTip AI is the complete application: the three layers live on the same element, with a single panel and a single configuration. Translate and Aura are two of those layers living in their own listing. If you want the set, the listing is ToolTip AI.
What happens when the free trial ends?
The two separate listings carry a 7-day free trial, with no card up front. The complete app has no trial: you buy it once and it stays. When a trial ends, that listing stops answering until you buy it, and there is no automatic charge — there is no subscription to renew, so nobody charges you by surprise.

Which listing is which.

ToolTip AI is one application with three behaviours you turn on. Two of those behaviours are also published on their own, so you can buy just the piece you need. Here is what each one installs.

suite layer · translation

ToolTip AI Translate

Translates the text under your cursor with UI Automation or Windows OCR and shows it beside the pointer, original intact. Its own listing, with a 7-day trial.

ToolTip AI Aura

A voice guide that analyzes the element under the cursor and reads it aloud with local TTS, from a floating capsule you drag anywhere. Its own listing, with a 7-day trial.

ToolTip AI Voice

The read-aloud behaviour: it speaks the translation or the advice with the system voice, using Windows' own speech synthesis, while you keep working.

If you want everything on the same element — translation, rest radar and voice, with a single panel and a single configuration — the listing is the complete ToolTip AI. The separate listings each install on their own and do not share a panel.

Privacy, in one paragraph.

ToolTip AI has no server of its own, it does not ask you for an account and it uploads nothing on its own. It identifies the element and reads its metadata inside Windows, with the capabilities the system already brings. Only if you put in a provider key does anything travel — and it travels where you choose.

  • Without a key it keeps working locally: it loses the expert advice, not the reading.
  • The key is stored encrypted with DPAPI, tied to your Windows user.
  • The HUD does not come out in screenshots or in recordings, on purpose.
  • Error notices send only the error type and the app version — never text, window titles, paths or keys — and they are off by default.

One app. Lifetime license.

It installs from Microsoft Store and updates itself. This page carries no hand-written amount: the Store shows the figure in dollars and converts it to your currency at the moment of paying, and that is the one that counts.
